Jeremy Piven

Jeremy Piven

For anyone who’s already on the latter, I’m at @sepinwall.bsky.social. Obviously, the whole reason this newsletter exists is to provide a reliable place to link to my stories and do some of the kind of microblogging I’ve done on various social media sites. But if you enjoy my feed and would rather not be on Twitter Dot Com anymore, you have options. (It was a strange time, but also I do love that show.) Things should be different this time around, if only because the TV ecosystem has changed so drastically in the last 16 years.

In 2005, Piven returned to his theater roots starring in the off-Broadway hit Fat Pig by Neil LaBute, for which he received a Distinguished Performance Honor from the Drama League. He also appeared as Bobby Gould on Broadway in Speed-the-Plow. As a child growing up in Chicago, the eight-year-old Piven climbed on stage at the Piven Theatre Workshop, founded by his father, Byrne, and mother, Joyce Piven. He is still very active with this workshop and returns to Chicago frequently to help keep his parents’ dream alive. Being the son of Byrne and Joyce Piven, founders of the Piven Theater Workshop, Piven has been surrounded by actors since he was a small child. Honing his acting skils in Chicago theaters, Piven eventually made his way to Hollywood, where he has acted in several films with longtime childhood friend, John Cusack.
His elder sister is director Shira Piven, whom he has described as one of his first acting teachers; his brother-in-law is director Adam McKay. Mark was a co-executive producer on The OG Show, and Jeremy says it’s just a matter of Mark stepping to the plate and giving fans what they want. Mark recently got on the record to support an “Entourage” comeback, but hasn’t committed to starring in a potential series…and Jeremy tells us that Mark is key to getting the idea off the ground. In fact, Mayo suggests pregnant women can safely eat up to 12 ounces per week of canned light tuna, limiting albacore tuna and tuna steak to no more than 6 ounces per week. Mayo does advise that pregnant women avoid swordfish, king mackerel, shark, and tile fish.

Now that he has made a giant leap forward—in Smokin' Aces, he leads a powerful cast that includes Ben Affleck and Matthew Fox—Piven says he values those who have stood by him more than ever. "It just says so much about a person if he has space for other people's success," he says. Piven will confess to loathing the many indignities of auditioning, or "dancing for Whitey" as he often ruefully calls it. "The average person would never be able to take this much rejection and getting down on bended knee," he says.
In March, Entourage creator Doug Ellin, who’s long pushed for the series to return, told OutKick that a potential reboot wouldn’t differ all that much from the first go-round. But, since  the show premiered nearly 20 years ago , the characters would certainly have some changes. Elisabeth Moss and Raul Esparza will continue in their roles. The production is currently playing a limited engagement through Feb. 22, 2009, at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
Hollywood’s Laugh Factory resident comic Max Amini and actor Jeremy Piven bring their energetic comedy show to South Florida. Amini—an Iranian-American known for delivering hysterical, culturally charged bits—and Piven—who most remember as erratic agent Ari on HBO’s Entourage—are joined on stage by a group of local comics. Beyond that, Piven is continuing to explore the world of super-agent Ari Gold in HBO's "Entourage," and says that the show's success has spawned recent talk of -- wait for it, drama fans -- a feature film. It was 10 minutes from New York for cast and crew, we were able to get people like Cathy Moriarty. [The Oscar nominee plays the grandmother of Manning’s character]. She was willing to do it if we picked her up every morning and brought her to the set.

I am the antithesis of those things and yet it's my job to make you believe that these characters are real. I think that you can know if someone is fooled into thinking that's a real character then I have done my job because it's my job to make them as authentic as possible. I am probably more like Harry Selfridge in certain ways, in terms of his emotional accessibility. I am not a guy like Ari Gold that needs to take up all the oxygen in the room. I find it uncomfortable to be around those types of people.
In the 1990s, Piven’s hair was beginning to thin, his hairline was quite high, and his forehead was a brilliant lighthouse. This has only gotten worse towards the end of the 20th century. Who hasn’t heard of Ari Gold, the star of Entourage, who was so expertly portrayed by the skilled and animated Hollywood actor Jeremy Piven? Harry Gordon Selfridge is a very real entrepreneur who went to England to found his own self-named department store. Even those who have never heard Jeremy Piven of Selfridge will know his contributions to the modernization of the retail business. As an up-and-comer at Chicago’s famous Marshall Field’s, Selfridge instituted the Christmas countdown—“Only 16 days until Christmas! ” He also came up with such now-entrenched concepts as large windows on the façade of department stores, the phrase “the customer is always right” and bargain-basement sales.

His stand-up debut in 2008 at the formidable Just for Laughs Festival in Toronto. The current tour also has him performing in Indiana, Washington state, Kentucky, Michigan, Texas and California. The New York Post reports that Piven has "been temporarily replaced by" Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz . "The show that started off confident has become indomitable," asserted New York Times writer Virginia Heffernan. "It's a rare week when these four friends don't seem like supporting players in The Ari Gold Show," he declared. Piven was born in New York City in 1965, but he and his sister, Shira, grew up in Evanston, Illinois.
