Jeremy Piven Is Really Who You Want

After having paid his way through college with his film salaries, Piven was dismayed when a talent agent discouraged him from settling in Hollywood permanently. "She said to me, 'Look, Jeremy, you're probably not going to work until you're in your 40s.'" he recalled in the interview with Riley in Back Stage West . McKay began venturing into more dramatic territory in the 2010s. The Big Short was his first film he directed without Ferrell in the cast. For this film, McKay was nominated for several awards including two Academy Awards, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay (with co-writer Charles Randolph), and two British Academy Film Awards, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The comedy won a Peabody Award in 2016 and earned Adlon two Emmy nominations. The actress has also appeared in a number of films including Bed of Roses, Sgt. Over the next decade, Piven's career seemed to be stalled in the comic-sidekick/best-friend slot in such films as The Family Man with Nicolas Cage in 2000 and Serendipity a year later, which reteamed him with Cusack. He also appeared in several box-office hits, including Black Hawk Down and Old School , before producers at HBO's original-series division cast him as a manic, ruthless talent agent in the Hollywood-set comedy Entourage . In the role of Peppers, Seann  William Scott had a standout cameo in Old School.

In October 2017, Ariane Bellamar tweeted that Piven groped her in his trailer on the Entourage set in 2005. Piven “unequivocally denied” Bellamar’s claims, but Bellamar’s tweet inspired other women to come forward with their experiences, all of which Piven denied. He also attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where he departed after his sophomore year to attend New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He left Tisch during his senior year to pursue his acting career and is an alumnus of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He spent a semester at the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center in Waterford, Connecticut. In 2007, McKay and Ferrell launched the user-submitted comedy video site Funny or Die. The team searches but cannot find Don, they get pumped up to sell the 105 cars left on the lot without him. While wandering the desert Don sees the deceased McDermott with two angels. McDermott tells him that everything is about the team, people you love, and that he should get off the road and settle down. In the time it takes Don to get back to the dealership the team has sold every car on the lot. The Daniel Adams-directed film takes place in 1974 and gives moviegoers an in-your-face realization of cold-blooded racism. Piven plays newly released jailbird Johnny Bunkley, who takes issue with Black students being integrated into an all-white high school.

Everyone involved is amazing and the film is endlessly quotable. After loving it for years, I bought the DVD and listened to the commentary. Director Hart Bochner comes off as a guy who just wanted to make Jeremy Piven a good film, and I think he succeeded. Despite that, he really does turn in a signature perform in this film. It doesn't take itself seriously and you should go into it just wanting to be entertained.
He received Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor for four straight years, from 2005 to 2008, and won the award in 2006, 2007 and 2008. He also received Golden Globe nominations for the role from 2005 to 2010, and won in 2008. He has appeared in a number of films with John Cusack, who is also from Evanston and is a fellow alumnus of the Piven Theatre Workshop (as are Cusack's sisters Joan and Ann). Piven and Cusack once shared an apartment and have been friends since high school.

So if he can keep his head down and deliver another reliable performance like he did for eight seasons of Entourage, things could soon be looking up for Jeremy Piven. Things got more revealing when Piven is asked if he was still close with the Entourage crew. "Well, you know, we were in two separate worlds . I represented the professional world and they represented the Peter Pan syndrome." For the record, that wasn't a compliment.
Piven's acerbic comic skills emerged when he played a television writer on the HBO series The Larry Sanders Show . His first starring role came in the college farce PCU in 1994, in which he played a perennial student and natural-born disruptor in the send-up of political correctness on college campuses. He spent the rest of the decade in supporting roles in such fare as Miami Rhapsody, Grosse Pointe Blank , and Kiss the Girls . There was also a three-year stint on Ellen DeGeneres' sitcom as her cousin, Spence, out of which Piven was offered his own hour-long series on ABC, Cupid , which debuted in the fall of 1998.
