Jesus calls us to follow him

Jesus calls us to follow him

“Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for you shall no more be called the Lady of Kingdoms” (v. 5). This coming false religious leader—a leader who is prophesied to sit astride the end-time “beast” is described in Isaiah 47. “Come down and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon” (v. 1). Notice that this is a daughter of ancient Babylon. A modern sort of Babylon is to rise up!
That particular week, our administrative assistant was out of town and so I was picking up the mail each day from the post office box. I was hopeful, because six weeks earlier a member of my support team promised to send me a check toward my personal support, but it had never come. So before I went home, I stopped by the post office, convinced the check would be waiting for me. This is the message most of us don’t want to hear.

Of course, they didn’t like it, any of it. There was a growing sentiment of jealousy, hate, and even outright hatred rising up in the family. Although they thought about killing him, his brothers eventually sold him into slavery. Almost unbelievably, that didn’t stop Joseph; it didn’t deter him.

Having this type of research reminds me to be intentional with my time and what I am allowing myself to be exposed to. The Bible has been the most influential book in my life. It has guided me  as I have surrendered and released control to God. The Bible and a love for its words are a natural extension of your desire to honor the great sacrifice of Christ and know Him better.

I like this version where it summarizes the 25 core messages. This book brings light in a darkened world. This is a great summary of the 25 core principles from the Conversations with God Series .
There will be old rebellious habits to get rid of , and some new God-honoring ones to take on . If we turn to God and ask for forgiveness, trusting in Jesus as the resurrected ruler and savior, then everything changes. The end result of living this way is the inevitable and rightful judgment of God.
Eventually I went home, rested for a couple of days, and it came time to go back to my normal routine of eating a Hershey bar for breakfast. I said, "Oh, it's bad! Oh, it's gone bad! The chocolate has gone bad. Bring me some good chocolate!" My taste had changed. In a moment, some of you are going to be tempted to leave here and try to hit your head hard. In one moment, my taste had changed due to a head injury.

Guide me as this journey through Advent begins. Almighty God, there is much gloom throughout our world–almost all of which is of the result of the failings of humanity. We are faced with wars and injustice, the destruction of the environment, and more. It is no wonder that we sometimes feel that we are walking in the land of darkness. And yet, as we approach the celebration  of the birth of Jesus tomorrow, we can see a great light, a promise of a better tomorrow.
It  has everything to do with whether or not you really "know" the true God—the Creator. In fact, it directly affects your inheriting everlasting... Thousands of different denominations claim to be following Jesus Christ.

Forever, something that lasts, what do you know about that? The Bible is forever, it doesn't change. It will never fail, it won't let you down.
I think it’s easy to glaze over this and overlook the connection between thoughts and transformation. Maybe it’s to “self-helpish,” and we’ve been turned off by cheap self-help books. A study of Philippians can lead you and your Church into a new season off understanding King Jesus, and how we can follow him. The word believe means that you rest totally upon God and God alone.

He doesn’t just want to make you happy. We can get stuck in this thinking that happiness is the greatest good, and that is a pattern that will draw us away from God and lead us away from Jesus. Another pattern of thinking that’s been pretty common lately is fear of COVID. Fear of COVID can take us all over the place and it can draw our thoughts away from Jesus.
