Suggested tours Desert Break in Morocco
For a lot of people, camping means hiking to the heart of a lush forest, perhaps near a pristine alpine lake or on the shores of a fast-flowing river. It could be a good idea to cover yourself with a wide-brimmed hat or a bandana. To avoid losing a lot of water through sweat, a good clothing option to spend time in the desert are light-colored long-sleeve shirts and pants. I wrote this guide to help you plan your trip to Merzouga desert village, covering everything you need to know so you can get the most out of your visit to the Sahara desert.
We didn’t do much walking besides up the dunes so I just wore canvas sneakers. Merzouga is full of tourists heading out into the Sahara, but it’s still part of Morocco so you’ll still want to dress conservatively. We found this hotel through our friend whom we visited in a village outside of Fes, as she’s friends marrakech desert tours with the owners. The manager picked us up from the bus station and showed us straight to our room to get some rest. … with our rental car at Ait BenhaddouMark and I settled with the option of renting a car. It was perfect us since we weren’t on a tight budget and we wanted to be flexible with our stops.
Faux guides are rife across Morocco and the desert towns of Morocco are no different. Many of these guides have a wealth of knowledge and can often speak lots of different languages picked up over the years, even though they may not be certified in any way. Neither Erg is technically in the Sahara desert, but they are regarded as the gateway to the Sahara, which lies a bit to the south.
Due to the low light pollution in the area, night photography in the desert is really impressive and the clear sky at night in Erg Chebbi allows you to count billions of stars. If you are a lover of photography and have good photographic equipment, take advantage of your night in the desert to take night shots of one of the most perfect skies on the planet. As a result, the experience of camping under the stars in the Sahara is known as glamping. The range of amenities varies depending on the company you hire and the type of accommodation.
All of our furniture is in traditional design so that you can get a flavor of desert culture. We also offer restaurant tents, traditional songs and comfortable seating under sun. Campfire is also lighted during night to entertain you and your companions immensely. The camp has electricity from a solar panel, tents are with real beds and enough blankets, all the tents are made of black wool, they get extremely warm even in cold months. For the full experience, two nights in the desert is the perfect amount of time. It provides just enough time to relax at the camp, explore the sand dunes, embark on a sunset camel ride, and sightsee nearby historical Kasbahs.
Dining in our restaurant is a unique experience, unlike any other restaurant in Marrakech, animated by a Gnawa band show and real campfires. Each tent sleeps up to three and is perfect for a family or a couple. You’ll start by departing Marrakech early on day one towards the Atlas Mountains where you will make several stops for scenic viewpoints before descending out of the mountains and onto Ait Ben Haddou. About five minutes into our journey, our cameleer asked if we wanted to camel or ATV back the following morning.
As a local team leading a travel company, we offer unique and authentic Morocco desert experiences. Merzouga camel trekking is a must thing to do while visiting Morocco. We will provide you with camel ride, and a beautiful camp to spend the night. Watch a gorges sunset, and lost yourself in the starry sky. Take a camel ride and spend unforgettable starry night at the camp in the traditional Berber tents.
Your luggage will stay with the vehicles and be dropped off at your camp while you finish your camel ride. Most Sahara desert camp packages include camel trekking. You will take a jeep out a short way into the desert and meet up with a small group of guides, and enough camels for your group. This was an experience I will never forget and one I’d recommend to anyone visiting Morocco.
The diversity of geography, wildlife and terrain are not like anything I have ever experienced before. The purity and isolation of the Sahara offer a quietness that astonished me. Not to mention, the clarity of the night sky and overall serenity of the desert was indescribable. After lunch we made the drive straight to the desert and reached right after sunset to have an early dinner, entertainment by our very friendly camp hosts and then gaze at the ah-maz-ing night sky WOW!
They are all hanmade and can differ on the interior depending on each person design. They might have some basic restaurant set up as dining tent, but most have just campfire where meals are served. They are set up for one night only, for clients to come in the evening and leave next morning. We had the most amazing experience here, They were very welcoming and helpful. Great breakfast and dinner in Morocco .Thanks for a great time and hope to see you soon.
We took a shower and then enjoyed a yummy Berber breakfast. The kids had a blast playing in the sand and tumbling over. Most tour companies in Morocco offer tours to Merzouga, were the Sahara Desert is located. You can take a tour from Fez, Marakech, Casablanca etc – just note that the drive time will vary depending on your starting point. The drive time from Fes to Merzouga is 7 hours, however it took us about 10 hours with all the food and bathrooms stops. This type of campsite will have a few of the comforts of a deluxe Morocco desert camp but with less decor and not as many services, a step above a cheap Morocco desert camp.
At other camps, you can wake up quietly, have breakfast there, possibly do another activity and then return. You can choose a more basic experience, with traditional Berber tents, such as those at Kasbah Mohayut. However, many tourists stay in the more luxurious tented camps, which are fully equipped. A bedouin is riding camels on the sand dunes in Merzouga during a sunny day. Spend night in the desert in an expensive and comfortable campsite. Explore it with us and immerse yourself within one of our Morocco desert camping tours.
