Alternatively you could take a train to Taichung and take a bus to Sun Moon Lake. Ideally somewhere with easy access to major attractions and night markets, but not too busy/crowded.

Deviated from our route to Hualien county, Ruisui Township only once to marvel at the Taroko Gorge and National Park. Visitor headquarters in the park were closed so we pushed on through the gorge. Yea good view up there and Lilly takes plenty of photos from all four directions. As South Sea Islanders, Australian born descendants of the Pacific slave trade, these sugar companies are part of our history and material culture.
